FOR the first time, Amnesty International will be combining with Frome Friends of Palestine when they run their usual stall at the weekly Saturday market, in Market Yard, outside the Frome library, on Saturday 18th March.
Frome Friends of Palestine say the two groups are joining forces, “because Amnesty is currently highlighting the situation in Israel/Palestine, where the new, extreme right-wing government of Israel is imposing extra restrictions both on Palestinians living in Israel, and on the inhabitants of the West Bank, which has suffered an Israeli military occupation for more than 50 years. Amnesty, along with other international groups and individuals, now believes that the situation can be described as Apartheid.
“There will be the usual second-hand book stall, and also an opportunity to sign letters asking the UK government to reconsider its relationship with the Israeli government, given the obvious bias in its reaction to the increasing violence of illegal settlers against Palestinian villagers, their homes and farms.”
