TICKETS are still available for Frome Musical Theatre Company’s ‘Anything Goes’ which runs from Tuesday 7th to Saturday 11th May at the Frome Memorial Theatre.
Anything Goes is Cole Porter’s iconic, joyful musical about the mad antics aboard the ocean liner SS American which is sailing from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Reno Sweeney, a nightclub singer and ‘Moonface’ Martin (public enemy no.13!) help Billy in his mission to win Hope’s heart.
Taking on the lead role of Reno Sweeney is Dora Bishop, a familiar face on the Frome Memorial Theatre stage as well as a director for the company’s youth section Spellbound and School of Rock last May.
Dora describes her character as a nightclub singer turned evangelist who has been hired to ‘save sinners twice a night’ on board the SS American. She doesn’t take life too seriously and spends a lot of time joking around with her friends on board the ship.
Dora added, “Anything Goes really proves how entertaining and funny classic musical theatre can be. I think it’s so important that people of all ages can experience why shows like these have remained so popular, decades and decades after they originally premiered (there was recently a revival production that has been televised and on BBC iPlayer).
“It is full of catchy tunes, wonderful costumes and laugh out loud, larger-than-life characters – what more could you ask for?”
The show promises audience members heartwarming romance, an uplifting score including ‘You’re the Top’, ‘Blow Gabriel Blow’, ‘It’s Delovely’ and ‘I Get A Kick Out of You’ as well as tap dancing sailors, comical disguises, and farcical blackmail!
