OCTOBER is fast approaching and organisers of the local Poppy Appeal are looking to recruit more volunteers for this year’s collection.
The Poppy Appeal, arranged by the Royal British Legion, runs for a fortnight from Thursday 22nd October, and sellers are needed to help the collection in and around Frome.
Appeal organiser Maggy Daniell said, “We are looking for members of the public to help collect at one of the big stores for an hour or two. You would be joining a big and friendly team, with no commitment beyond the one occasion.
“The funds raised go towards the support of those who have survived war but need care. The age profile of those being supported has changed; many are young, and often have suffered life-changing physical or mental damage which require intense or long-term treatment. Families are also supported, because their lives are deeply affected too.”
2014 was a record-breaking year for Frome’s Poppy Appeal and raised over £30,000 – a figure collectors would like to match this year. If you would like to get involved with the appeal, contact Maggy on 07854 818286.
