Justin Welby with David
Garmston of BBC Points West
THE Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby visited Frome earlier this month as part of his Bath and Wells Diocese tour.
The sell-out event at the Cheese & Grain drew people of all faiths and denominations to listen to Archbishop Justin speak about his hopes for the future with David Garmston from BBC Points West before taking questions from the audience.
Programme manager at the Cheese & Grain, Martin Dimery said, “It was a terrific evening and a complete sell-out event. We weren’t surprised about the amount of people who came along because it was intended for everyone; people of all faiths and dominations and for those of no faith.
“Regardless of your religious views, he is a very interesting and funny man and a brilliant speaker and listening to him speak was a real pleasure. He discussed both topical and controversial issues in a thought provoking manner – it was a huge success.
“David Garmston who led the interview was terrific at engaging with the audience. Many pertinent and relevant questions were asked by the audience, it was very interesting.
“It was the diocese that approached us and asked if we could hold the event because they didn’t want it to be held in a church or anywhere which would make it a religious event.
“We were very pleased to be asked to host the event. They felt the Cheese & Grain was a suitable location and we were very happy to do it.”
