Rike (Susanne Wolff) is a successful emergency doctor in Cologne but has a long-held dream to sail her yacht solo from Gibraltar to Ascension Island in the Atlantic. Her trip takes a very different course though, after a storm and an encounter with a stricken boat loaded with refugees. She tries her best to help but as time goes by, the situation worsens and Rike has to face impossible moral decisions.
