Frome Lions’ latest sportsman’s dinner, held at the orangery at Orchardleigh in January, had as its guest speaker legendary BBC rugby commentator Ian Robertson.
220 guests were present to hear him talk about his time as both a player and latterly, commentator.
This year’s chosen charity for the event was “Hope for Tomorrow” who are the largest provider of mobile cancer care in England. They work closely with NHS trusts to provide mobile cancer care units (MCCUs) which go into the heart of communities, meaning patients don’t have to travel great distances to receive treatment and can be treated in a safe and friendly environment, and where they can form friendships with other cancer patients who live locally
The proceeds from the event are still being finalised, but it is anticipated that the Lions will be able to donate in the region of £13,000 to the chosen charity.
The Lions would like to thank Connor Construction (South West) Ltd for overall sponsorship of the event, Christopher Vincent for donating the venue for the night, David Millard for compering the evening and Michael Joyce for conducting the auction, and last but not least, all the companies and individuals who generously supplied items for the auction and raffle prizes.
