Cooper Hall in Frome will host a double bill on Sunday 2nd February at 4.30pm, featuring an international ensemble of musicians.
London/Oslo-based duo BirdWorld is a musical partnership between Gregor Riddell and Adam Teixeira. The duo combines an acoustic set up of ‘cello, drum set, kalimbas, percussion and electronics. Weaving between ambient electronic, contemporary classical, folkloric music and improvisation, the duo creates a musical language that is both natural and otherworldly.
Recent highlights include a Union Chapel concert filmed and recorded by NTS Radio, an electronic film score commissioned by London Contemporary Orchestra and collaborating with Sanskriti Shrestha, Streifenjunko, Harpreet Bansal, James Kitchman and Alex Stuart among others.
Birdworld’s track ‘After Rain’ was included in the August ’18 edition of The Wire Tapper and in October performed at LSO St Luke’s ‘Open Ear’ series live recorded by BBC Radio 3. On the 2019 autumn Equinox, BirdWorld released their critically acclaimed debut album UNDA on Focused Silence. In spring 2020, they will release a remix album of tracks from UNDA by a handful of renowned producers, as well as a follow up EP of new material also on Focused Silence.
James Kitchman (UK) and Sylvia Schmidt (DE) are a guitar-vocal duo whose original sound embraces the dynamic tension between forces of preservation and transformation. Two compelling musicians drawn together by an expansive approach to song and interpretation, they share an affinity for the Anglo-American folk ballads of the Appalachian mountains. The debut album As Long As Songbirds Sing is due for release in 2020.
