There are just a few days left to submit your entry for Black Swan Arts’ prestigious Young Open competition.
The deadline for entries has been extended to Friday 23rd February, and the exhibition takes place at the Frome-based arts centre from 17th March to 7th April.
There are some amazing prizes on offer to the winners of the art competition, which is aimed at young people between the ages of 8 and 19. As well as the work going on show at one of the region’s leading contemporary art galleries, prizes will be awarded in three age-group categories (8–11 years, 12–15 years and 16–19 years) in the form of one-to-one, individualised, creative workshops with practising and successful artists.
This year the artists include Jenny Barton (ceramics), Amanda Bee (painting), Hans Borgonjon (ceramics), Fiona Campbell (sculpture), David Daniels (animation), Suzie Gutteridge (felting), Rosie Hart (digital media and painting), Mayumi Kaneko (natural dyes), Nicky Knowles (painting/collage), Ben O’Brien (illustration), Gladys Paulus (felt-making), Chris Pig (printmaking) and Alex Relph (metalwork/sculpture).
Entries will be judged and curated by children’s author Michelle Robinson, whose books include ‘There’s a Lion in My Cornflakes’, which won the first Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award in 2014, and ‘Goodnight Spaceman’, which she wrote in collaboration with astronaut Tim Peake, who famously read the book in space for CBeebies; Gavin Strange, a senior designer with the interactive arm of Aardman Animations and ‘best mate’ on CBBC’s Art Ninja; local artist Jo Walton, who studied fine art at Bath Spa University; and Amanda Sheridan, chair of the board of trustees at Black Swan Arts.
Visitors to the exhibition will also have an opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork in the ‘People’s Choice’ award, and win for themselves an exciting prize.
