With the 2019 council elections only a few months away, Independents for Frome (IfF) are once again aiming high, with the selection of 17 candidates who will be standing in every seat in the town.
A selection panel reviewed 26 applications, and selected four existing councillors along with 13 new candidates. Together they offer the town a broad mix of skills and expertise, from business people to community leaders, from a wealth of different personal and professional backgrounds, but what they share is an independent mind and a desire to do the best for Frome, regardless of politics.
Former Mayor Sheila Gore said, “I’m excited to be standing again and hope to be representing the people of Frome for another four years. Most councils look at what we deliver and how we support community groups with amazement, I’m proud to be part of it.”
Sheila also commented on the selection of new candidates saying, “The way IfF select its candidates is unique. Anyone in Frome is able to apply no matter your background or political leanings. The result is a group of talented and motivated individuals ready to work as a team for the town. I’m really looking forward to working with them and all IfF supporters during the campaign.”
IfF have held the majority of seats on Frome Town Council since 2011, winning all 17 seats in 2015. Their success has inspired other independent ‘revolutions’ in parish and district councils across the country, and their candidates will be standing in at least 15 areas in May, including Bath, Portishead and Bradford-on-Avon.
