A CATERING van is an exciting addition for students of Critchill School, for pupils with severe and complex learning disabilities.
Toni Harper from the school explained, “The Critchill catering van will provide our students with the opportunity to undertake real-life work experience within the local community, whilst supported by our highly trained staff. They will be able transfer skills learnt in school whilst also working towards a range of accredited qualifications.
“Since recently acquiring the van, students have been hard at work designing waffles and paninis that they will be making and serving. They have been busy cleaning the van ready for inspection and we they have already secured their first pitch at The Giant Jam Festival for adult learning difficulties, in July.
Critchill School provides a calm and aspirational learning environment for students with an age range of 4 – 19 years old. “We educate pupils who are deemed to have severe and complex learning disabilities, e.g. autistic spectrum disorder, Downs syndrome, global delay as well as pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
“All of our pupils have an Education Care Plan/Statement of Educational Needs which are carefully and sensitively addressed, so that within the context of a well-developed curriculum, all of our pupils are fully included.
“We provide the opportunity for a specialist education, enabling all children to develop a full range of academic, functional and independent skills.
“Our holistic, aspirational approach to education enables our students to make a positive contribution to school and community and fully prepares them for future success. Students become independent and valued members of society having achieved their potential.”
