The TEA Project is a grassroots organisation supporting children from the poorest urban and rural areas throughout Sri Lanka, where education and lives have been disrupted by poor economies, war, poverty, abuse and natural disaster.
23 Bath St’s involvement in the project came when in 2017 the landlords of the entertainment venue, Lark and Toby, along with their children, visited Sri Lanka and the project’s base, learning about the phenomenal and extensive work that the project provides. Using some of the weekend door and bar takings, 23 Bath St has been paying the wages for one support worker for almost a year now, and have made a promise to continue paying these wages no matter what the future may bring.
The TEA Project (which stands for training, empowerment & awareness) helps give young people a voice. This voice will then develop ambition, skills, knowledge and opportunities for underprivileged children, so unlocking a child’s potential
The TEA Project works to empower Sri Lankan children from poverty. It donates its services to daily assist a number of organisations who give support to thousands of vulnerable children and families from Central, Eastern, West and Northern regions of the country. They provide training, support and guidance to schools, orphanages and other grass root organisations working directly with marginalised, vulnerable children and young people.
The TEA Project is based in Kandy within the Central Highland Province of Sri Lanka. Like the Kandyan weather, the ethnic and religious context is as strong and diverse as Sinhalese, Tamil, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities sharing the close proximity of the city.
23 also regularly supports and hosts events for MIND (mental health charity) and PAPYRUS (Prevention of Young Suicide).
