WITH a game late in the day Frome Ladies Hockey 1st team were looking to continue to build on their successful team performances.
Frome were the first to strike with a sublime early goal from Juantellé Matthews, which beautifully struck the backboard. Chippenham looked lost and lethargic against a unforgiving Frome attack. Jo Brooks-Scully and Lisa Powell continued throughout the game to supply their forwards with well timed through balls and words of encouragement.
In no time at all, a second goal was provided by none other then Lottie Culblaith, who showed her skills weaving through defenders and struck a ball that no defender or keeper was going to stop. Into the second half Chippenham used their young players to effect running plays down either flank. Eventually this played dividends, securing them a goal. Frome’s defence in Rebekah Balll, Hollie-Jane Withey, Rach Chedgy and Mandy Broadway stepped up to the mark ensuring no further goals were coming in!
A third goal came from the youngest in the team, Betty Restorick, who showed composure slotting away the final goal. Big thank you to Jo Shailes for stepping up for this game. Once again a great team performance, let’s keep it going girls!
Final score Frome 1s: 3 Chippenham 2s: 1. Player of the Match: Lisa Powell
Frome Ladies 1s V Swindon 2s Hockey
FROME Ladies hockey first team hosted an early game against Swindon 2s.
An early goal came in the form of the opposition, following a breakdown in communication of the Frome Ladies. Disappointed with this, Frome picked themselves back up and soon came knocking on Swindon’s door with an equaliser from Karen Moore.
Frome were excited that this weekend also saw the return of two former players, Liz Fisher and Alice Starr, following time away from the game.
Great link up play throughout the midfield allowed a second goal to come in the form of a very in-form Lottie Culblaith.
Following the break, Frome were revitalised and put in several waves of attack, with Jo Brooks Scully and Juantelle Matthews working beautiful triangles down the right side. A penalty short corner saw Lisa Powell in wide open space slide away Frome’s third goal of the game.
Swindon continued to try and break down Frome’s defence, with some very young pace coming down the wings. Later in the second half, the game was firmly in Frome’s control after putting away 2 more goals curtesy of Lottie Culblaith and Karen Moore.
Final result Frome Ladies 1s: 5 Swindon 2s: 1. Player of the Match: Liz Fisher
