FROME College has congratulated their year 9 debating team who took part in the national Youth Speaks final at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on Sunday 12th May.
The college says, “Congratulations go to our very strong and talented year 9 debating team – Melissa Verwey (chair), Tabitha Spiers (main speaker) and Saphire Almond-Neate (vote of thanks).
“The team spoke extremely well, but they were just pipped at the post. Saphire won the ‘Vote of Thanks’.
“Following their outstanding win in the regional final at the Queen’s College in Taunton on Saturday 30th March, where Tabitha also won ‘Best Speaker’ we did feel the judges made the wrong decision. However, we are all very proud of their fantastic performance on the topic of ‘What happened to Feminism?’ It is an outstanding achievement to get into the national final of the competition.
“Well done to all of them!”
