LOCAL Frome man, Rupert Waterhouse, is setting out to cycle through the Rocky Mountains in the US to raise money for Team Type 1 Foundation, a charity that supports people in developing countries who have diabetes.
Part of the renowned amateur Haute Route series – the ‘highest and toughest cyclo-sportives in the world’ – Rupert will tackle the mountainous route that covers 520 miles in seven days, with 55,000 feet of climbing in total, including an epic ascent on the final day that takes the riders up over 14,000 feet to the top of Pike’s Peak, one of the most famous climbs in the USA.
Rupert aims to raise £1,500 for Team Type 1. He says that local Frome business, Your Storage Space, has already made a generous contribution to his target and he is looking to others to join in, to raise money for a worthy cause.

Team Type 1 Foundation, which is based in the USA and is the official charity of the Haute Route, fights for the right to live through a global mission of education, empowerment and equal access to medicine for everyone affected by diabetes.
The TT1 sustainable diabetes program saves lives in third-world countries by providing glucose meters, test strips and diabetes management education to thousands who would otherwise suffer debilitating complications and early death.
