JENNY Bennett has handed over a cheque for £1,000 to the Children’s Hospice South West as her penultimate act as Frome Selwood Rotary Club president.
On behalf on the club, Hugh Deed explains, “Her very final act was to hand over the presidency to Guy Parkinson. Covid-19 restrictions have been in place throughout Jenny’s year and this event had to take place outdoors with limited attendees under the continuing restrictions.
“As well as receiving the cheque, local fundraiser Kylie Gallagher, updated the club on the Children’s Hospice and its work. Jenny then removed the chain of office and handed it over to Guy for the next 12 months.
“Guy is a retired large animal veterinary surgeon who joined Rotary in 1986 as a founder member of Bradford on Avon Rotary before moving to Frome Selwood Rotary in 2002. He has held many positions within the club since then including having been president once before.
“He and his wife have travelled to India to take part in the Polio immunisation programme run by the Indian Government, WHO and Rotary International. He has also travelled to many other countries with the Rotary International Friendship Exchange programme.”
During his year as president, Guy says he wants to maintain the club’s work in the community especially with the elderly and young people of Frome as well as continuing to work with the other two Rotary clubs in Frome especially in the Rotary in Frome charity shop in the Westway Precinct and the recycling of old wheelchairs to South Africa.
