YOU won’t be short of things to keep you entertained this summer with events running throughout June and July.
On Saturday 3rd June, celebrate carnival season with Frome Carnival Fun Day and Dog Show from midday to 5pm. This year’s fun day promises to be bigger and better than before and will feature children’s activities, rides, stalls, face-painting, games, barbecue and cakes. The fun day also has a family-friendly dog show and every dog owner is urged to come along and take part – there are a range of classes including; junior handler, best puppy, waggiest tail and best rescue.
The carnival baby competition will take place at 2pm during the fun day. The winning baby from each category will become the much celebrated ‘Carnival babies’, taking part in September’s afternoon procession! For more details about the Fun Day, see page 3.
The following day, Sunday 4th June, Frome Town Council is hosting ‘VolunTea in the Park’ again; an event put on to thank the many volunteers that give their time in Frome and the surrounding areas.
A marquee is set up in the park and guests can enjoy sandwiches, scones, cake, and copious amounts of tea. ‘VolunTea in the Park’ coincides with National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. The event is open to anyone who volunteers.
Frome Lions will hold their annual summer fete on Saturday 10th June at Victoria Park.
The fete will run from 12.30pm to 4pm and will have a huge range of activities for all the family, including the popular Punch and Judy and of course the Lions train which will be giving rides around the park.
Then on Saturday 1st July, Frome FM host Party in the Park. A great day out for all the family and a chance for local people to get to know their local radio station and even try their hand at broadcasting.
The day will feature shows made and broadcast from the ‘radio tent’, by a wide cross section of presenters and guests including members of the voluntary sector, special schools, local musicians and local businesses. Find out more about Frome by ‘Meandering’ with Dorothy Anne; test your knowledge with a family Frome-based quiz; listen to a local band or ‘be a DJ’ with their onsite radio workshop.
As well as the radio tent, the park will be full of great things to do from face painting to games and treasure hunts. Local charities and community groups will be invited to set up stalls, with information and activities and food stalls to suit all tastes.
Join Frome Town Youth Band at the bandstand in Victoria Park on Sunday 16th July for an afternoon of musical entertainment. The band will play a varied programme with something for everyone. Why not bring a rig and a picnic and make an afternoon of it?
