Silk Mill preparations are well and truly underway for a fabulous range of events happening over the nine days of Frome Festival.
On Friday 1st July, World Gala Music features Carolina Herrera from Columbia & Salsa band Bahareque with the Roti Shack serving a Caribbean menu of festival food from the courtyard kitchen.
The ever popular Frome Open Studios sounds the opening bell on Saturday and runs all week with five Silk Mill artists welcoming visitors, Alexandra Brown, Luke Florio, Clare Lloyd, Hayley Trezise and Maggie Wallace.
In the gallery, Ciara Nolan will be exhibiting portraits and stories comprising her on-going project, ‘Humans of Frome’, (exhibition opens on Tuesday 28th June with a launch party on Thursday 30th June from 5.30 – all welcome).
Also on Saturday, the gallery will be hosting the town’s first Small Publishers Fair which opens from 10am to 4pm.
The ridiculously addictive FB Pocket Orchestra are bringing hot jazz, blues and ragtime on Tuesday 5th starting at 8pm and if you like your entertainment cabaret-style then Vera’s Variety Bandbox on Wednesday 6th from 7.45pm will startle and amuse in ways you never thought possible.
Another first for the Silk Mill will be Time Machine, (Thursday 7th), a fashion parade of British costume through the decades from 1920 to the present day.
This very special event is a collaboration between Frome’s ever-increasing and talented ranks of textile designers and bespoke makers.
The Roti Shack is back for it’s second flavourful weekend and the gallery concludes its programme on Saturday 9th with the return of Sensonic, the festival’s definitive late-licence club night splicing together local DJ deck maestros with spectacular video and graphic projections.
