Last year Fair Frome launched “Let’s Celebrate” to help raise funds and awareness and following last year’s successful event, the group is running the project again, with the support of local people and the Frome hospitality sector.
Fair Frome said, “Last year, we were thrilled that almost the whole cafe/restaurant community, 29 venues, in the Frome area supported this initiative, raising a fantastic total of almost £2,000, including gifts in kind and sponsorship.
“Fair Frome continues to work for fairness and equality for all; last year, thanks to the generosity of the people of Frome, the Food Bank supported 835 people and helped local schools with breakfast clubs, while the Furniture Bank distributed household items and bedding to 150 homes. We also continue our Holiday Hunger project in partnership with the Children’s Festival, serving hot meals to families during the school holidays.
“However Fair Frome is constantly vigilant, listening to those in need and those supporting them and trying to do what we can to address those needs as they arise. We know that in Frome many children and families struggle to provide meals due to continuing low wages and changes to benefits.
“Any funds raised from “Let’s Celebrate” this year will support a new initiative. Food at Five (5pm), a community meals project, will provide a hot meal and pudding, on three evenings a week during term time – once each in the three areas of greatest deprivation in Frome, free for families entitled to benefits.
“When you go out for a coffee, drink or a bite to eat during the week of Friday 31st May- Sunday 9th June look out for our ‘Let’s Celebrate’ posters in participating venues and if you are able to support us, please do pop something in our donation envelopes.
“Any cafes/restaurants /pubs that would like to take part in ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and have not yet registered please do contact us on infofairfrome@gmail .com or in the office on 01373 488578.
