Community group Fair Housing for Frome (FHfF) will hold a public meeting at Rook Lane Chapel on Saturday 29th April, 2-5pm, to raise awareness of the housing crisis in Frome.
The meeting is for anyone concerned about their current or future housing, or who cares about social justice and the future of our town.
In 2016 Frome experienced the third biggest rise in house prices in the UK. Rents are rising much faster than wages, at least nine people slept on the street last year, and over 70 homeless young people asked for help from the YMCA’s Routes youth service.
“The stories we’re hearing are heartbreaking,” said FHfF chair Alison Keyes. “People sleeping in cars and caravans; families under the threat of one month’s notice to move out; and young people unable to live in the town they grew up in.”
The public meeting will be opened at 2pm by Frome Mayor Toby Eliot, followed by information about local initiatives and the opportunity to discuss solutions and share your own ideas. At 4pm there will be an ‘Any Questions’ style panel to include David Warburton MP, representatives of Mendip and Frome councils, and community housing experts.
