Frome Lions recently presented a cheque of £500 to the local dementia support group, Songs for the Memory.
The Lions outgoing president Beverley Windley presented the cheque to representatives from the group as a leaving gesture, and the money will go towards the general running expenses of the group.
Beverley said, “At the end of each presidential year the outgoing president can give out funds to local causes and this year I chose Songs for the Memory as the work this group does is invaluable to some of the more vulnerable in our society. I have also chosen Frome Dissenters Cemetery and Frome Carers Group for support.
“The money will hopefully help the Songs for the Memory group to provide even more support to more people affected by dementia as I’ve seen that people can really come out of their shells when they join in with the singing.”
Songs for the Memory uses music to support people living with memory and dementia difficulties and their carers. The group was awarded Frome Times Group of the Year for 2022.
The Songs for the Memory group meet every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3pm at the Masonic Hall, North Parade. For more information contact 01373 466367, email songsforthememoryfrome@gmail.com, or contact them through their Facebook page at Songs for the Memory – Frome.
The sessions usually start with tea or coffee and a chance to chat. The group then gathers to sing a range of songs from the Beatles to Frank Sinatra and those ever-popular tunes from shows and musicals. Music and words are provided, and organisers say there is something for everyone.
