A BIG turn-out from the Charltons’ directors and employees at Avonvale RFC ensured that an impressive £1,563 was raised for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
The Charltons Family Fun Day was held in memory of the late Mr Michael Charlton, who died last year. The successful event was the brainchild of company employee Andrew ‘Tank’ Ball.
“The weather was extremely kind to us,” says Andrew. “The turnout of those working at the company and their extended families was fantastic. I think that it is fair to say that from young children to their grandparents, everyone had a really enjoyable and fun day!”
Employees from Charltons Furniture in Radstock as well as from the Timberstore and the sawmills at Buckland Down near Frome all attended.
The Family Fun Day hosted bouncy castles, cake stalls, glitter tattoos and a hog roast. The main event of the afternoon was the It’s A Knockout competition. During the afternoon, the Michael Charlton Cup was also awarded to company Chairman and CEO Mr ‘AJ’ Charlton for his lifetime’s achievement award to the company.
“It is entirely appropriate that the first award of the Michael Charlton Cup went to Michael’s father,” says Andrew. “Not only has AJ worked for the company an incredible 70 years, but the two of them were also very close.”
The event was so popular and such a success that the company is now thinking of making the Family Fun Day an annual event.
“The success is wholly down to Andrew and his colleagues who organised this spectacular event,” says company director Peter Charlton. “A huge ‘thank you’ must go to Andrew and the others who gave such a great deal of their own time helping to ensure that not only so many people had a great time, but that such a big sum was raised for such a worthy charity.”
