Wesley Methodist Church is gearing-up to welcome many visitors as part of the Frome Festival programme, where a varied ‘Afternoon of Favourite Music’ suitable for all ages, will be performed by a diverse range of local musical talent.
The concert, on the penultimate day of the Festival, on Saturday 15th July, from 2.00pm-4.00pm, will feature pop and show tunes from Frome’s One Voice Community Choir, and musical pieces by Rogers and Hart, Hoagy Carmichael, Gershwin and Cole Porter, being introduced by The Lee Ingram Jazz Trio.
Piping-up during the afternoon will be ‘Romsey,’ Wesley Church’s magnificent organ, making his unique contribution to Frome’s musical scene. Resident organist Natalie Hobbs will be guest player for the afternoon.
A spokesperson for the event says, “The Frome Festival always highlights, and brings out the very best in local talent from our performing arts groups, who simply go about their business throughout their year. Our afternoon fusion of musical genres has been specially prepared to fully exploit this local talent and to offer something for everyone.
“Frome’s One Voice Community Choir rehearses every Wednesday at Frome Cricket Club, with professional musician Lee Ingram. Lee and his fellow musicians from his Jazz Trio will also be on-hand at the concert to provide some ‘easy-on-the-ear’ interpretation of jazz standards from the 50s and 60s.
“This is a ‘free’ event, not to be missed, and is an ideal way to while away a summer afternoon. There will be interval refreshments available. All are welcome. Come and enjoy. Donations, in aid of the organ restoration appeal, will be appreciated.”
