Scheduled to be at The Bath Half Marathon recently, selling their soups and risottos, Frome-based soup company Watmuff & Beckett, were suddenly left with a large amount of fresh soup and risotto when the event was cancelled on the Friday afternoon.
They quickly decided the best thing to do was to give all stock away and raise money for the local charity Lisa’s Army, whilst also keeping the residents of Frome warm and happy during the weekend that saw most of the town snowed in.
Their social media post about the charity give-away raised a lot of excitement, reaching over 90,000 people and the Cheese and Grain car park was full of waiting customers on Saturday afternoon of 3rd March. The event raised over £400 for the charity in just 1.5 hours.
Company director Andrew Watmuff said, ‘We were really keen to turn a bad situation into a good one. As all our products are fresh, they were likely to go off and we were going to lose money, so we thought how can we use this stock to help others, and we came up with the idea to support a great local cause Lisa’s Army UK.”
Watmuff & Beckett’s soups and risottos are available to purchase in local stores, Beckington Farm shop and Asda, Frome.
