FROME Tennis Club is extending its scheme to provide free tennis coaching and club membership for juniors from low income families, to help those who have been affected financially by the pandemic.
The club has run the scheme for several years now and says, “If you are a parent or guardian that qualifies (or is likely to qualify on starting school) for pupil premium funding, then you are likely to be eligible for the scheme.”
Club development officer John Price said, “ We are a community club and it is our role to ensure that tennis can be enjoyed by the whole community, not just the few. Many families are struggling at this time due to the pandemic, so we have decided to extend the scheme to include families where a parent or guardian has been furloughed or made redundant because of Covid-19.
The club added, “If you have been furloughed or made redundant and one of your children likes sport, then bring them along for a junior coaching course and enrol in the club – it will cost you absolutely nothing. This offer runs until the end of March 2021.
“If you are interested in this opportunity then please visit https://clubspark.lta. org.uk/FromeSelwoodTennisClub/Coaching or email coaching@frometennis.net and explain that your child has qualified (or is likely to qualify) for the scheme. There will be no need to provide any written evidence. The scheme is funded by the club and Knightstone Housing Association, Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership, Frome Community Lottery, FAST and Somerset County LTA Committee.
“Half-price club membership is also available for adults from low-income families (see the web page above for details), so you could join as a family at significantly reduced cost.”
Club chairman Mark Brierley said, “We wanted to make a positive contribution to the community at this time and this a way that we can really do something to help.”
