FROME Art Society has presented one of their members, Alan Walker, with a special painting of an RAF training flight, to celebrate the ex-serviceman turning 100 years of age.
The painting depicts a training flight of two Mosquito aircraft in 1946 when, as recorded in Alan’s logbook, he flew on a formation sortie.
A spokesperson for Frome Art Society says, “Alan, a long time Frome resident, turned 100 on the 18th October. He served in the RAF in the latter part of the War, flying Lancasters and Mosquitos. “A keen amateur artist, Alan has been for many years an active member of Frome Art Society and still paints.”
The painting was created by fellow Frome Art Society member, David Scrutton. He is a committee member, and is the outdoor painting secretary. The society describes him as “a versatile artist who paints with watercolour ‘en plein air’ and also specialises in aviation art, using oil paint as his choice of medium.
He was fortunate to be able to borrow Alan Walker’s wartime RAF log book, so he could pinpoint the specific type of Mosquito aeroplane that Alan flew, resulting in a very accurate depiction of it. “Alan is very pleased with the painting, and points it out to his visitors.”
