Frome Carnival Committee’s annual fun day will be held in Victoria Park on Saturday 1st June.
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before, building on the success of last year’s phenomenal fun day. It will take place in the park between 12pm and 5pm and will feature family friendly activities, games, food and drink, stalls and much more.
Fun Day organisers Emily Denne and James Edwards have explained that they are working to make this the most successful fun day to date for a very special reason. They say, “We know that the public have noticed a reduction in the number of floats attending September’s carnival in recent years and the Carnival committee are determined to address this.
“We love and welcome all entries to our carnival, and floats are, of course, a really important part of street carnivals. We have therefore made the decision this year to offer financial support to every large float who attends our procession. This will only be possible if we drastically increase our fundraising income throughout the year, and the fun day is our single biggest fundraising event.
“As well as games, food and fun fair rides, the fun day will feature the annual selection of Carnival babies, prince/ss, and ambassadors. More information about this can be found on the Carnival website: www.fromecarnival.org.uk This year will also see the introduction of a ‘children’s trail’ which will be a carnival-themed trail around the park. It will cost just £1.50 for a trail sheet and anyone completing the trail will receive a small prize on the day.
“Frome Carnival’s dog show will once again be a central part of the day, which is a family friendly show, suitable for all ages and breeds of dog.
“There will be a total of ten classes, plus a ‘best in show’ award. Classes include junior handler (aged 5 to 16) and waggiest tail! It costs just £2.50 to enter a class – anyone wishing to take part is kindly asked to register from 12 on the day, with judging starting promptly at 1pm. This year the dog show has been kindly sponsored by Bellevue Veterinary Clinic, who will have a stall beside the arena.
“The event also promises a range of entertainment throughout the day with a special performance arena in the centre of the park. Local groups and individuals have kindly pledged their support to the Carnival by agreeing to perform for free during the event. The public will be able to enjoy a mix of music, dance, cheerleading and much more throughout the day.
“The fun day raffle will be drawn at 4.30pm, with this year’s first prize being an amazing £100 in cash! All raffle prizes have been donated by local people and organisations, meaning that all tickets sold are going directly to helping pay for September’s carnival. There are numerous other prizes including; a bundle of new children’s toys, luxury toiletries, £50 cash, and a Saint Lauren scarf.
“We are truly excited about this year’s fun day, which truly does promise ‘something for everyone’! We would ask the Frome community to support the fun day and by doing so, you will all help to ensure that Frome enjoys the best street carnival it has had for many years!”
