Each year, the Frome & District Probus Club holds a lunch to honour the ladies of the club – wives, partners and widows of past members.
This year it was held at the Standerwick Centre in Frome Market on 20th June.
John Hedges from the club said, “Before lunch, Oly Perkin from the University of Bath spoke to us about a current research project “Ageing muscle, use it or lose it”, a salutary subject for most of us.
Oly said, “After the age of 50, muscle strength is gradually lost, but exercise helps slow it and exercise against a load improves strength. An important finding by the Bath group shows that “exercise snacking”, a minute of modest exercise against a load (cycles of standing up and sitting down is an example) has good benefits for older people.”
John continued, “Lunch commenced with grace said by this year’s club President Alan Sandall, and an excellent meal was enjoyed by all; many of us lingering well into the afternoon.”
