AFTER 21 years at the Cheese & Grain the Frome Farmers Market is relocating to Boyle Cross in the centre of town on Saturday August 13th.
“Firstly, we would like to thank the Cheese and Grain for over 20 years of support, hosting one of the first Farmers Markets in the UK and at its peak arguably the best, according to The Sunday Times!” said a spokesperson for the market.
“However, since Covid and the more recent cost of living crisis we have seen our customer base decline despite publicity campaigns and extra help from the Cheese and Grain. I’m afraid folks it is a simple case of ‘Use it or Lose it’.
“However, we do not want to ‘Lose it’ and many thanks are due to Frome Town Council for supporting us to relocate to Boyle Cross where we already hold a successful Farmers Market as part of The Frome Independent.
“This solution will bring back a market to Frome’s original market place and we hope being so visible, will introduce our farmers and food producers to a wider customer base. We also look forward to being alongside the town’s other shops and cafes to help maintain the town’s vibrancy.
“We are excited and nervous in equal measure and on wet windy days we will certainly be missing the weatherproof Cheese & Grain!
“The market primarily supports farmers to sell directly to the public and provide an opportunity for customers to build trusting relationships with those who produce their food.
“If you would like to keep abreast of our news updates, follow us on social media or visit our website to sign up for a Frome Market newsletter www.somersetfarmersmarkets.co.uk
“On a final note please try to support all of Frome’s local independent shops, cafés, butchers, market stalls and businesses. Whilst trading we all put our best foot forward and keep smiling, however in these dire economic times we are all very economically fragile.”
