One of the highlights of the last few Frome Festival line ups has been the packed, high energy Flash Harry gigs at the Cornerhouse.
Rammed with an enthusiastic crowd, their foot stomping concerts have been so popular that people have ended up dancing outside on the pavement. This year, Frome based saxophonist, Vicki Burke, is bringing Flash Harry back for another appearance and another night of fast folk, blues, Balkan and Rock. The gig takes place during Festival week on Saturday 14th July at 8.30pm.
Flash Harry have been a favourite with Bristol crowds for over 30 years playing their heady mix of music peppered with off-beat humour and songs about hamsters being lost on the underground. The band members have their roots in Bristol and the South West with members having worked with bands such as Up Bustle and Out, Doreen Doreen, Vivian Stanshall, local Frome funksters Fat Stanley and Bowl of Thrills.
Frome-based saxophonist and singer Vicki Burke said, ‘It’s a regular slot now at the Frome Festival and it’s become one of our favourites. The band are so busy with gigs and their own projects, so it’s great to get a date together here in my home town and play to such a fab audience. What’s really brilliant is that the Cornerhouse don’t charge entry for the gig, so it really has a community vibe too.
Martin Earley from The Cornerhouse said, “We have some bands who play here once or twice a year and pack the place out, Flash Harry are one of those. We just love having this band in the pub, it’s fast and manic and the pub comes alive with their music’
Flash Harry will play as part of Frome Festival at the Cornerhouse on Saturday 14th July at 8.30pm. Entry is free, however the magic hat will be passed round during the evening.
