FROME Half Marathon, 10k and 5k event has raised over £7,000 for local good causes.
The money will be divided up between several local charities and initiates with some of the money raised will go to Positive Action on Cancer (PAC) and the World Scout Jamboree, both of whom assisted with the marshalling of the event.
Money raised will also be donated to the Frome Activities and Sports Trust, a new initiative still in its early stages that aims to provide support to local activity and sports groups.
Race organiser Georgie Starkie said, “The organising committee would like to extend their thanks to the following sponsors, who have provided logistical help in the weeks leading up to the event, on the day and in some cases throughout the year.
“The event is recognised as a great success by the local running community but the organising committee rely heavily on the help and goodwill of so many local businesses.”
Some of those that helped made the event a success were:
• CH Contracting, who provided all the road signs for in and around the town • Frome Cricket Club, who are providing year-round storage facilities for all kit • Frome Scaffolding, Oakley Garden and Estate Machinery, Frome Tool and Gauge, Downside Nurseries, Sydenhams Hire Centre, Frome Mini Buses, Platinum Vauxhall and Bluebird Care who all provided vehicles for use in setting up and packing down the course, as well as providing support to the runners during the race.
• Gift vouchers for prize winners were provided by Tony Pryce Sports, ASDA, Sainsburys, The Co-op, The Three Horseshoes Chapmanslade, The Royal Oak Frome and Jhalmuri Indian Bengal Cuisine • Body In Motion Rehab who provided massage for runners as they crossed the finish line with help from McCulloch Sports Massage • The Tuck Shop who provided packed lunches for the marshalls • Frome College for printing services • JR Harding & Sons Ltd, Dairy Crest and Bio Fizz for providing storage and content for the goody bags.
• Chris Bailey Photography – who covered nearly as much ground as the runners getting photos of all the race finishers; and finally • Frome Football Club who provided the venue to hold the event each year.
Planning for the 2015 event is already under way – the race will be held on 19th July 2015 and entries are already open through the website www.fromehalfmarathon.co.uk.
