A plan to help wildlife thrive in Frome has been launched at a sold-out event attended by residents and environmental experts.
The Nature Recovery Plan sets out ways to improve habitats, support wildlife and encourage residents to take action in their gardens and community spaces.
The launch at Frome Town Hall on Tuesday 20th October included a screening of Heal the Land, a documentary about the restoration of a former intensive dairy farm by Heal Somerset.
The plan has been developed using local wildlife data, workshops with Somerset Wildlife Trust and feedback from residents, community groups and environmental organisations.
A panel discussion followed the screening, featuring Daniel Hill, rewilding ranger at Heal Somerset; Rob Holden, environment manager at Frome Town Council; Adam Hunt, joint founder of Urquhart & Hunt; Dan Morrell, founder and chief executive of Balance; and Hayley Smith, a producer of Heal the Land.
The discussion covered biodiversity loss, rewilding and sustainable land management, as well as how residents can help restore nature.
Cllr Sara Butler said, “It was fantastic to see such a positive response to the launch of Frome’s Nature Recovery Plan. With tickets fully booked, the event showed just how much local people care about nature and the environment.
“The discussion demonstrated that there is a real appetite to turn ideas into action, and that’s exactly what this plan is about. By working together, we can make a meaningful difference for wildlife and create a greener, more resilient future for Frome.”
The plan identifies opportunities for habitat creation, community planting projects, wildlife surveys and helping residents make their outdoor spaces more wildlife-friendly.
