THERE is still the opportunity to visit the Frome Friends of Palestine Exhibition at the Silk Mill Gallery.
Frome Friends of Palestine explains, “This autumn marks the centenary of two major events: the signing of the Balfour Declaration, and the British conquest of Jerusalem. We’re using these anniversaries to tell the story of Britain’s time in Palestine, with the emphasis on the lives and memories of people who had relatives that were involved in it.
“Frome in Palestine present a ground-breaking exhibition of people with Frome connections at the heart of history, with photographs and some interesting family heirlooms on display”
The exhibition is open 11am-7pm every day until Tuesday 31st October. There will be refreshments available
“We’ve got some special evening events lined up too”.
“On Saturday 28th October and Sunday 29th October Peter Kosminsky’s admirable docu-drama, first screened on Channel 4 in 2011, called ‘The Promise’, described as ‘a turbulent and moving love story’ starring Claire Foy and Christan Cooke will be shown.
“The central character is eighteen-year-old Erin, who visits Israel in her gap year. While she is awakened to the political situation, she also goes on an emotional journey as she builds a relationship with her grandfather, who served with the Paras in Haifa, through reading his diary of his time in Palestine.
“The docu-drama will be played in two sittings over two evenings, each with a break for refreshments. It starts at 7.00pm both nights, with free admission!”
