A LOCAL man is using the profits from his Frome-based martial arts school to support other youth clubs in the area.
Owner of B-smart Martial Arts, Shaun Takle, has recently made donations of sports equipment to the Frome Robins under 7s football team and the PE department at North Hill House School, along with trophies to the Frome Flyers Cheerleading Squad. He also plans to donate arts and craft equipment and a self-protection seminar to Routes, the youth drop-in centre and cafe.
Shaun said, “I want to lead by example, as I always tell my martial arts students that it’s always good to help others, so what better way to educate them than by practising what I preach.
Manager for the Frome Robins under 7s, Ian Kennedy said, “It’s a fantastic gesture from Shaun of B-smart Martials Arts that shows how committed he is to improving children’s lives in the community.
“The skills balls will enhance all of the young players’ footballing techniques and he also kindly donated trophies and medals for the season, which we are very grateful for.”
Shaun said, “I used to run a football team many years ago with a good friend of mine and we had no help at all and it was a struggle to keep the club running. It would have been great back then if someone had donated some balls or some trophies to help us. I just feel happy that I can help out and also help create some good memories for the kids.
“Each month I will be helping and donating to different clubs from any profit made from my Frome club.”
PE sports coach at North Hill School, Leroy Green said, “Many thanks to Shaun for his donation of skill balls and footballs. This will benefit the students during their PE lessons and during their social time. Hopefully we can work together with Shaun and his martial arts school in the future.”
Shaun’s martial arts school in Frome has been running for eight months, and offers children over the age of three a self-protection course called ‘Defender’ and a ‘B-smart about bullies’ programme. The classes are held every Thursday at Christ Church First School.
