Frome Stars 60 TNC 15
The first quarter was steady but strong. Stars played well together to move the ball swiftly through court and get a four goal lead of 11 7.
Going into the second quarter, Stars were keen to increase their goal difference from TNC. Kathy Dredge and Sophie Garton worked well to turnover balls in defence, with Kate Smith, Sophie Cox and Amelia Pratten effectively bringing the play down the court with strong feeding into the circle. Stars gained a 16 point lead to forge ahead 29 13
As Frome were at a comfortable goal difference, the team dynamics were mixed up at half time. Going into the third quarter, the defensive team repeatedly worked hard, putting pressure on the opposition to make errors. This gave Stars several turnovers and the opportunity to convert more goals, quickly increasing the goal difference. Movement across court from defence to attack flowed smoothly and attacking players easily fed the ball into the circle. Stars, who are sponsored by Dennis Maps and Wessex Drains ended the third quarter with a 29 goal lead 44 15.
For the final quarter, Stars set a target of hitting 55 goals. Each player showed great performance, team work and encouragement. Once again, the defensive pair, Kathy and Sophie, worked in unison to intercept passes and move the play back into Star’s hands. The ball transition through mid-court by Kate, Alice Millard and Sheri Pleasants allowed for sharp on-point feeding into the circle, followed by first time shots by Hannah Dredge and Georgia Cox. Player of The Match: Georgia Cox, Players’ Player: Kate Smith
Frome Hearts 42 Chippenham 6 24
Frome Hearts took on Chippenham 6 winning by only seven when they previously played them. Hearts started strongly in the first quarter taking interception and tips from the defensive end of Tracy Carter, Vanessa Gaunt and Freya Applegate. This enabled them to feed the shooting pair of Zena Harper and Amy Cardwell for the goals managing to end on a score of 8 3.
The second quarter became slightly tighter as Chippenham upped their game and staged a fightback, resulting in a halftime score of 16 14. Making some changes in the third quarter Hearts managed to settle back down. Bringing the ball up court worked well using Tracy, Dawn Heal and Maddie Kerbey and balls were fed really well into Amy and Ness who converted these chances onto goals, ending ahead 29 17.
In the final quarter Hearts who are sponsored by Dennis Maps kept pushing and some really good defence from Kiah Greenan who had entered the fray and Tracy helped us to end on a 42-24 win. Taking the Player of the Match and Player’s’ Player was Tracey Carter, making a welcome return to the team after an injury.
