Frome & District Probus Club have had a busy start to 2018.
John Hedges, vice-president, Frome & District Probus Club reports, “The first event of the year was a trip to the new Aerospace Bristol museum at Filton, organised by our current president, Alan Sandall.
“The museum celebrates the history of the Bristol Aeroplane Company. The exhibition shows not just aircraft, but objects from all aspects of the aero industry, engines, aeroframe parts, design work, etc; and also items from when the company was obliged to diversify, trams and lorries for example. The prize exhibit is a enticingly presented Concorde.
“A couple of weeks later, Probus held a New Year lunch, organised by the club’s social secretary, John Helliar. It was attended by many of the members, plus their wives or partners and friends of the group. We were honoured to also entertain the current president of Frome Rotary, Chris Page. We were 80 in total and a much enjoyed meal was taken.
“In early February, the club was taken on a historic trip around Frome organised by the club’s talks secretary, Cliff Bawden, who has been much involved with the town’s various history societies and has extensive knowledge of the town’s treasures.
“Frome Probus is a local social group for retired professional and business men that was founded in 1984. It meets on the third Tuesday of each month at The Standerwick Centre in Frome Market. The monthly members’ meetings consist of club business, coffee and tea, talks on a wide range of different topics, and a two-course lunch.
“The club offers a number of activities throughout the year, to which spouses and friends are welcome, including walks, cultural visits, days-out, croquet, quiz night, lunches, etc. The club tries to help members and spouses when it is needed.
“Currently there is room for a few more members and any man who feels it may be of interest and may like to join, should contact Probus using the contact form on the website: www.fromeprobus.co.uk
