Each year, the current president of the Frome & District Probus Club organises a day out for its members and their wives and partners. This year’s president, Patrick Naughton, chose Lawrences Auctioneers in Crewkerne.
Lawrences is one of the UK’s principal fine art auctioneers and Probus were invited to a preview of a forthcoming sale. Patrick Naughton commented, “Members enjoyed a fascinating day out at Lawrences. They were entertained by a marvellous talk on ‘Understanding Modern Art’ given by Richard Kay, their pictures specialist.
“After a private viewing of the fine arts sale that was held in October, they adjourned to a convivial lunch at the Lord Poulett Arms in nearby Hinton St George.”
Frome Probus is a local social group for retired professional and business men. It meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at The Standerwick Centre in Frome Market. The monthly meetings consist of club business, coffee & tea, talks on a wide range of different topics, and a two course lunch. In addition to the meetings, the club offers a regular programme of other activities, to which spouses and friends are welcome, including cultural visits, walks, days-out, skittles, quiz night, ladies’ lunch, etc. Currently there is room for a few more members. Any man who feels it may be of interest and may like to join, should contact Probus using the contact form via www.fromeprobus.co.uk
