FROME Selwood Rotary club has given its support to initiatives in Nepal, as well as helping Ukrainian refugees.

The club reports, “Rotary Clubs in Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset banded together last year to support the people of Nepal who were suffering badly from Covid 19. Over £9,700 was raised and this helped the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel in Nepal buy food and medical supplies for the community.
“Earlier this year Frome Selwood Rotary also donated £1,600 to finance an “Empowering Women” project to set up a small pickle making and bottling business, which will enable a group of Nepalese women to become financially self-sufficient.
“Through this Frome Selwood Rotary has entered into a club partnership agreement with the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel in Nepal to forge a special bond through the advancement of the ideals and friendly relations of the people of both countries and to seek international understanding and goodwill and peace throughout the world.”
Frome Selwood Rotary’s President, Guy Parkinson, adds, “Rotary is an international organisation that offers help to communities both local, national and international. We are a band of like-minded people who are committed to doing good through service and funding. This is one small step to show how communities around the world can help each other.”
Frome Selwood Rotary has, alongside other Rotary clubs in the area, also been involved in sending funds, medical supplies and other donated goods to help Ukrainians in their difficult situation.
