FROME STARS 33 – 39 HOLT BLUE
In a lacklustre performance Stars went down to a Holt side by 6 goals but are still on top of the league table. Stars started well enough with Hannah Dredge finding the net and the steady combination of Sophie Cox and Kate Ellen feeding the ball into the circle so at the end of the first quarter it was 8 goals all.
Unfortunately for Stars the second quarter was probably their worst ever as Holt forged ahead and strangely Stars could not seem to get the momentum to turn things around.
Kathy Dredge and Alice Millard put in another good shift defensively and Kathy again gained many an interception, earning her the Players’ Player award.
At half time Holt led by 9 goals and Sophie came off to be replaced by Sheri Pleasants. JoJo Knight went to centre and this change seemed to galvanize Stars as they picked up their game and pulled back the deficit at the end of the third quarter to be behind by only 5 goals.
Sophie picked up the Player of the Match award after putting in a good shift while not feeling at all well.
FROME STARS 37 – 26 DEVIZES
Stars took an early lead and never looking back, ending the first quarter 13 goals to 5 ahead.
Janie Bullus found the net scoring regularly along with Alice Millard. Captain Sophie Cox maintained the need to stay focussed and led from the front along with the other centre court players of JoJo Knight and Kate Ellen whose secondary defending was excellent.
The second quarter saw Stars extend their lead by 21 goals to 9 with the defending duo of Kathy Dredge and Sheri Pleasants making some excellent interceptions turning defence into offence.
In the third quarter, Kate Ellen continued to feed the circle players with some excellent passes earning her the Player’s Players accolade.
Third quarter score was 29 goals to 20. In the final quarter Stars gained momentum and the shooters maintained a steady rhythm of scoring along with more defensive pressure from Kathy and Sheri. Janie picked up the Player of the Match award but this was a team performance for all involved and with two games to go they top the league.
