As UK politicians vote to join forces with the United States in bombing Iraq for the third time in a generation, Frome Stop Wars Campaign will host an event entitled ‘Wars With No End’ to reflect the current seemingly endless round of military interventions in which our country has become involved.
Lindis Percy of the Campaign for Accountability of American Bases (CAAB), applies her expert knowledge gained through decades of campaigning and extensive research, to call for more oversight of US military bases on UK soil, still in existence 70 years after the end of WWII.
Lindis, who has worked for the National Health Service her entire working life, has been a peace activist in the United Kingdom since 1979. She is speaking in her capacity as a founding member of the Campaign for the Accountability of American Bases (CAAB).
As an activist, she uses non-violent direct action and civil disobedience, having attended the Department of Peace Studies of University of Bradford in the late 1980s. The Guardian says of her “There must surely be few Britons who have been arrested in political protests as many times as she has”.
Political analyst, journalist and broadcaster Neil Clark, will give a talk entitled, ‘Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ukraine… the Same War?’
Neil Clark is a writer, journalist, and broadcaster strongly opposed to the war agenda of NATO, and who believes in the urgent necessity of a left-right anti-war coalition. He writes to counter what he describes as the ‘Lies of those who wish to condemn us to perpetual conflict’.
Neil addressed an International Peace Conference in Belgrade in March of this year. His blog was voted best UK blog in the 2007 Weblog Awards.
Come and listen to Lindis and Neil at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Trinity Street, Frome on Friday 10th October at 7.30pm. Entrance £3. Enquiries, please call: 01373 839038.
