Frome Stop Wars Campaign, in conjunction with the Westway Cinema, presents the 1969 classic film ‘Oh, What a Lovely War’ on Wednesday 9th July at 2.00pm.
In association with its showing of the film at the Westway Cinema in Cork Street (admission £5.00) as part of the Frome Festival, Frome Stop Wars Campaign has arranged a children’s poster competition – ‘Poster for Peace’ – on the morning of the previous Saturday, 5th July, outside the cinema.
Children will be asked to draw in felt tip pens a ‘Poster for Peace’ to be displayed as they are completed, and then moved to the foyer of the cinema before the showing of the film. Felt tip pens and paper will be provided.
The aim is not to be competitive, but, as an encouragement, a prize will be given for the most original poster as judged by historian Neil Faulkner, who is giving a talk about the First World War before the film is shown.
The ‘Poster for Peace’ drawing session will take place between 10.30am and 12.30am on Saturday, 5th July.
Martina O’Connor, proprietor of the Westway Cinema has most generously offered to give the proceeds from the film to the local charity, Positive Action on Cancer, for which the organisers are most grateful.
