Frome Voices will be presenting Mendelssohn’s glorious oratorio, ‘Elijah’ on Sunday 22nd March at the Cheese and Grain.
Frome Voices is a very special choir, drawn from across the local community. This year the choir has 115 singers, ranging from experienced choristers to newcomers for whom this is their first opportunity to sing classical music. All are welcome.
This will be the choir’s fourth annual performance, once again in collaboration with Frome Symphony and Jackdaws Music Education Trust. It’s a combination that enthralled a capacity audience for ‘The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace’ in 2014, and there is every expectation that this year’s concert will be equally successful.
Rehearsals are under way, led with passion, skill and humour by the conductor, Alan Burgess. He enthuses, “Oratorios are stories told through singing, as opposed to operas which also include acting.
“Without question, ‘Elijah’ is one of the greatest. It is not so much a religious piece as a thrilling adventure story, covering themes of universal appeal such as good and evil and the quest for spiritual comfort. Breathtaking and definitely not to be missed!”
Frome Voices will be joined by talented professional soloists and an exciting and inspiring evening is promised. Tickets are on sale now at the Cheese and Grain, priced at £10, and free to ‘under 18s’.
