Frome Voices will be performing Handel’s dramatic oratorio ‘SAUL’, on Sunday 12th March, 7.30pm at the Cheese & Grain.
Frome Voices was formed six years ago and prides itself as being a very special choir. It draws singers, from beginners to experienced musicians, from across the community, to learn and perform a significant musical work each year.
‘Saul’ will involve almost 130 singers, accompanied by a professional orchestra led by Alison Townley and an impressive group of soloists from the local area, including Alicia Little, Steph Douglas and Neil Moore.
‘Saul’ tells the biblical story of Israel’s King Saul and his relationship with the young David, glorified as a popular hero for slaying Goliath. Though at first Saul echoes this praise and offers the hand of his daughter in marriage, he becomes increasingly consumed with jealousy and rage, a musical journey that ends in tragedy for Saul, but on a note of hope for the future of the nation with King David as its virtuous leader.
Rehearsals are currently well advanced with musical director, Alan Burgess. Posters and information are on display around the town. The striking designs for publicity material and images that will be used on the night are the outcome of an A-level graphics project carried out by talented Frome Community College students. Their creative work will also be on display at the event.
Tickets are on sale now at the Cheese & Grain, priced at £12, free to under-18s.
