PEOPLE are being thanked for their generosity after last year’s Poppy Appeal raised £22,311 – with more to be added through Gift Aid.
The total for Frome and Nunney will come to over £22,700 – around £800 more than was raised the previous year.
Poppy Appeal organiser Maggy Daniell said, “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Poppy Appeal.
“This is a splendid result in the present economic climate, and many collectors remarked on the generous donations given – both in cash terms and relative to their circumstances.
“It is also due to the great team work and personal commitment of the collectors, the people who prepared the boxes and those who counted up afterwards. My personal thanks go to all of them for always being cheerful and co-operative, and to my predecessor for leaving the system in good order for a smooth transition.”
Maggy also thanks community groups and other volunteers, as well as shops and venues who had collection tins or welcomed collectors.
The appeal recently held a thank you party at Frome Cricket Club for volunteers and supporters.
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign. Every year the nation shows its support for the Royal British Legion through the appeal. Funds help support the British Armed Forces, past and present, and their families.
