THE Lions Club of Frome held their annual charity golf day last month, raising an estimated £5,000 for local charity, Fair Frome.
At the event, held at the Mendip Golf Club in Gurney Slade, 22 teams consisting of four players took part.
The Lions club reports, “This year’s chosen charity was Fair Frome. Fair Frome is based at Frome Town Hall and is an independent charity (CIO). In 2013, Frome Town Council identified a need for greater support for residents experiencing poverty and deprivation. There are lots of ways that poverty can affect people’s lives, including differences in health, opportunities for education, chances to make the right choices and enough money to live on.
“Fair Frome is now a thriving and successful community organisation providing emergency food parcels, community dinning opportunities and a furniture bank for Frome. The charity delivers hands on projects, as well as working with existing organisations to build services for Frome and the surrounding areas.
“During the day, the charity’s chairman Bob Ashford was in attendance, and at the conclusion of the event informed the participants of the charity’s work in the Frome area and thanked them for their support.
“At the time of going to press the final figures were still being worked out but it is anticipated that the Lions will be donating in the region of £5,000 to the charity.”
The main prize winners at the annual golf day were:
• Overall best score – WAFOGS, comprising Tony Roddis, Ron Bull, Ian Vincent and Mike Attenborough.
