A RECORD number of people competed in the Frome Festival Quiz, which returned following a three-year absence because of lockdown restrictions.
The quiz had 18 tables of four competing for the top prizes. Organisers said, “As ever it was greatly enjoyed by those taking part, with dynamic quiz master Paul Hewitt jollying things along so the evening went with a swing.
“Unusually there was a tie for first place between ‘The Chocolate Teapots’ and ‘The Witters’, the latter team captained by our former MP David Heath.
“’3As and a C’, who had won on the three previous occasions, were knocked off their perch into the runners up slot.
“Mention should be made of the bottom team, who by tradition were each given a quiz book ‘To swot up for next time’. They had chosen the name: ‘I’m missing Wimbledon for this’, but acknowledged at the end that they had very much enjoyed the experience.
“The usual raffle had been kindly supported by prizes donated by many local businesses. The organisers would like particularly to mention Dan Price of Somerset Deli – aka the cheese stall in Frome’s splendid local market every Wednesday and Saturday. Dan’s generous gift of a massive supply of cheese had to be split into two separate prizes! The raffle and the ‘Heads and Tails’ game jointly raised the excellent sum of £232.
“Very many thanks to Frome Rugby Football Club for hosting the event and also the four willing helpers on the night.”
