Get stuck in with Discover Frome’s annual events roundup

The team behind the Discover Frome website has put together a helpful guide for 2025, showcasing the events in store this year, from hyper-local celebrations to national campaigns.

The annual events guide is designed to allow you to plan for the months ahead, get important dates in your diaries and see what Frome has in store.

Cllr Mark Dorrington said, “Frome is lucky to have a wealth of creative and committed organisations, groups and communities who put on a host of fantastic events throughout the year. If you’re looking to get organised, this guide will give you a good idea of what is coming up for Frome in 2025, so get your family and friends involved and let’s have a great year.”

The guide includes the ever-popular Donate IT tech amnesty event in early February. Last January’s event saw 500 devices handed in to be wiped, refurbished and given a new lease of life. February also heralds the lighting of the Valentine’s Lamp on the 14th, with this year’s lamp-lighting ceremony signalling the changeover from the lamp’s creator and renovator Reg Ling to the new lamplighter Eddie Young. Reg Ling has led the romantic ceremony since 1993. “This well-loved Frome tradition should be one for your diaries,” says Cllr Dorrington.

The town puts on many a festival over the year from the Kindness Festival in March, hosted by The Good Heart, to the Walking Festival later in the year, to the vast programme of events at July’s Frome Festival.

Great Big Green Week, in June, encourages organisations big and small to support sustainability and tackle climate change, with events for all the family to get involved in. Later in the year, expect festive magic with Frome’s Christmas lights switch on and Lantern Parade, a firm favourite with the community.

The full events guide for 2025 can be found on Discover Frome’s website, with more events uploaded throughout the months. You can also check Discover Frome’s Facebook and Instagram pages for more information.

  • Concerns persist over leisure centre cleanliness

Frustrated residents are calling for improvements to the town’s leisure centre, following repeated concerns about cleanliness and hygiene. Residents have contacted the Frome Times with concerns about the facilities on Princess Anne Road, which was taken over by Freedom Leisure earlier this year after the former operator, Fusion Lifestyle, went into administration. Users had previously raised concerns about the reliability and cleanliness of the facilities, with MP Anna Sabine campaigning for improvements and working with the centre’s managers to make changes.

  • MPs demand answers over RUH home care transfer

The decision follows concerns from staff that the change could disrupt an established and successful operation.

  • Wild About Frome: Time to get seedy!

Hello, it’s Kerry here from the Frome Seed Library.
Your free, permanent seed swap located inside our fantastic town library. We’ve now reached one of the most exciting times of the year for us seedy folk...seed harvesting time!
But why bother saving seed when you could just grab a cheap packet of seeds from the supermarket next spring?
Well, you see each and every seed, from the mighty 25kg coco de mer to the fine dust of the foxglove, is a perfectly evolved vessel of genetics, which given the right conditions will germinate and (hopefully) flourish.
Whilst there is nothing wrong with buying your seeds, the vast majority of the seeds sold in the UK (around 80%) are overwhelmingly imported from overseas, where seeds have been grown in carefully controlled environments. This means your seed has no genetic memory of that soggy summer of 2024, your claggy clay soil, or the recent drought, whereas your plants at home will and for those that have continued to thrive despite everything, well that degree of hyper-local resilience and adaptability is something no seed company can replicate.
As politicians warn of future food shortages, it is crucial to recognise the role of seed in increasing our local food resilience; they are our insurance policy but the type of seed and provenance is key.
