A family of four golfers completed 72 holes in a day when they took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Longest Day Golf Challenge and raised £1,500 for the charity.
The golfers who are brothers Brandon and Dylan Lee, along with their father, Karl Stephens, and their uncle, Matt Myers, completed the Cancer Can Kiss My Putt Goodbye challenge at Orchardleigh Golf Club course on Wednesday 21st June at 5am, finishing the challenge at 7.45pm.
Susie Lee, mother of Brandon and Dylan said, “They all did really well. The four of them went around the 18-hole course four times. They all said it was much nicer in the morning because it was cooler but as the day went on, it got really hot. I think they did about 40,000 steps in the end. They didn’t ache too much the next day either. Only one of them had an achey shoulder.
“They are all avid golfers and have been playing for a long time. They’ve been saying for a while that they wanted to take part in this fundraising event. This is the first fundraising event they have done and I think they’ll do more. They did enjoy it, weirdly.”
To raise the funds, Orchardleigh Golf Club had a bucket on display for members to make contributions. Susie said, “People have been really generous.”
Fundraising co-ordinator for Macmillan Cancer Support, Hannah Escritt said, “We are so grateful to Dylan, Brandon, Karl and Matt for taking part in our Longest Day Golf Challenge and helping to raise an incredible £1,500 through their efforts. Thanks to the team’s hard work, this fantastic donation will help Macmillan to continue providing practical, emotional and personal support to people living with and affected by cancer.”
Cancer Can Kiss My Putt Goodbye is a national fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support, with other teams taking part across the country.
