TO celebrate the fruit and nut trees that were planted at Weylands last winter, a traditional wassail will be held on Saturday 14th January from 11am to 1pm.
Taking place in the field by the river at Weylands, it’s a chance to bring along your pots and pans to help wake up the new orchard. If you come early why not make a musical wassail stick and keep the chill at bay with some mulled cider or apple juice from Dowding’s.
The Frome Street Bandits will accompany the procession around the trees which will be led by the Wassail Bard and the Tree Guardians, and the gathering will sing to the health of the new orchard.
The Mayor of Frome Councillor Sara Butler will be there and said, “I’m excited by this superb tradition of celebrating the “Old Twelvey Night,” the original Twelfth Night, and I hope to see many of you there to sing and encourage a bountiful harvest later in the year. Bring along your pots and pans and wake the orchard’s sleeping tree spirits from their winter slumber and frighten off any meanies lurking in their branches!”
Frome Town Council is supporting this event, alongside the Tree Group Frome and Wood for Trees.
They will be sharing the plans for a possible willow walkway at Weylands and would like to hear any thoughts or questions at the event.
