Help shape Rodden Meadow

Frome Town Council (FTC) say they are passionate about the trees in Frome; whether that’s planting them or protecting them.

They report, “Back in February, the Wild about Trees project got off to a great start, with two community planting days held with the specific aim of fighting climate change. Hundreds of people braved the rain and cold to plant a grand total of 1,200 whips in the field below the allotment site on Birchill Lane and at Weylands.

 “FTC are now looking at other green spaces and looking at what other areas may benefit from some tree planting. Rodden Meadow is the first area to be considered and as this space is well used by the community, 

“FTC would like your views and ideas to develop the meadow for everyone to enjoy.  A series of drop-in engagement sessions are being hosted in Rodden Meadow to hear directly from those who use the space. The sessions will take place at the oak tree in the meadow on: Monday 26th October – 8.30am-12.30pm; Saturday 7th November – 9am-1pm; Sunday 8th November – 12-4pm.

Cllr Mark Dorrington said, “The main meadow area will remain open and focus on the single mature oak situated there, in all its glory. And we’re interested to hear your views on any further planting which could take place; whether there are any trees that would bring seasonal colour and areas of shade that you’d like to see. Or any species which you think would sit well in the meadow. We will also be looking at succession planting which is important for the future of the space. 

“We want this area to be enjoyed by the community for years to come, so please drop by the sessions so you can let us know your thoughts.”
