VALERIE Singleton OBE is coming to Frome to present ‘An Evening With…’ at the Woodlands Village Hall on 12th November.
Promoters say, “Who (of a certain age) doesn’t remember that famous phrase ‘Here’s one I prepared earlier…’ from their childhood? Sticky-backed plastic, washing up bottles and egg boxes, along with wire coat hangers and tinsel were the tools of the trade for Valerie Singleton for 13 years, presenting that most iconic of children’s shows, Blue Peter.
“While Valerie is best known as a presenter of the popular children’s series Blue Peter from 1962 to 1975, she has enjoyed a wide-ranging journalistic career. She presented the BBC Radio 4 PM programme for ten years, as well as a series of radio and television programmes such as the Money Programme on financial and business issues.
“Known as the Blue Peter ‘action woman,’ Valerie spent over a decade on Blue Peter showing viewers places and things they couldn’t visit or even imagine. Some of her Blue Peter highlights were taking a lion for a walk, visiting Kenya with Princess Anne for the Save the Children Fund and who could forget Lulu the elephant wreaking havoc in the studio?
“Valerie is still a much-loved and remembered presenter, part of the legendary line-up alongside John Noakes and Peter Purves. Many still regard this cast of presenters as the Blue Peter dream team.
“Valerie will be chatting about her life (did you know she was trained at RADA?) and answering audience questions at the Village Hall East Woodlands as part of their fundraising drive. Tickets are £15 from 01373 462963.”
